Maths Week

During Maths Week we all had lots of fun doing our Maths activities. The senior room made lemonade – enough for everybody in the school! They had to work out how many lemons, water and sugar they would need and had to measure them all carefully. It tasted delicious! They also had lots of fun estimating and measuring outside too.

We also made a metre squared display. Each child had to cut out two 10cm square pieces. Some children had to cut out more than two. The older children stuck all of these 10cm pieces together to make one big Metre squared display.

In the junior room, we did lots of Maths activities. We made some patterns using ourselves and we had fun using our dice cards and our counters. We also collected pictures of Maths things that are all around us. The senior room helped us too. Some of the children played Maths Boardgames, some children got to do Maths on the IPAD and some did their Manga high challenges on the laptops. It was great fun!

Eve’s Enormous Onion

This is Eve’s onion. She planted the bulb with her Daddy a while ago and now look at the size of it! We all got a big surprise when she brought it in to show us. The children in the senior room weighed the onion. It is over 500g. That’s one big onion! When we saw the onion, it reminded us of the story called The Enormous Turnip. Anyone for onion soup???

The food we eat

Over the past few weeks we were learning about the food we eat. We learnt about lots of good facts. We learnt about how everything was first made. First there was a big explosion . that made the stars, the moon, sun and all the planets then one star exploded then that made more and more and more and more and more! Then we learnt about a little dog called Paw’s and there was a storm coming. The dog went under the table. He knew that something was not right. On the first day Maureen came we made soup. Some people liked it and some people did not like it. On the next day Maureen came she spoke about habitats and species. She gave us all a habitat or a species. I was a frog. Frogs belong to the pond habitat. We used thread to show how all the habitats and species are connected.

Halloween

It is nearly Halloween .We will be dressing up on Friday. I will be dressing up as a cat. There are decorations up all around the school. There are spiders, mummies, bats and pumpkins. If we are very good we will have a big party on Friday. I like going out trick or treating with my friends. We all get sweets.

Halloween

Every year we have an occasion called Halloween on the 31 of October. At Halloween we do lots of fun stuff like Trick or Treating and ducking. Trick or treating is when you dress up and you go around to people’s houses and they give you sweets. We dress up in scary costumes and sing a song.
Ducking is something were you put an apple, money and some nuts in a bowl of water and try to get them out with your mouth. You should try it some time it’s great fun. I’m [Lisa] dressing up as a scary school girl, and I am [Niall] dressing up as a vampire.

This is a photo of us at Halloween two years ago.

Bye for now Lisa and Niall:)

Making Lemonade

On Thursday we made lemonade. We did our calculations yesterday and so we knew how much much of each ingredient we needed. We used lots of ingredients. We used water, lemons, oranges, sugar, syrup. First we squeezedall the juice out of the oranges and lemons. Then we put some water in it. We had to measure it very carefully and tried not to spill it. Finally we added the sugar and water syrup. We put in the fridge to cool and we will have it at break time tomorrow.

Estimates and measuring for Maths week

On Wednesday 17/10/2012 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th were estimating and measuring things inside and outside the school. We were estimating our copies and then measuring them. These are all the things we estimated and measured in school: First we estimated the width of keyboard on the Mac. When we estimated that, we went outside the school to measure the gate of the school. After that, the last thing we measured was the pillar of the wall. Then we came in and dicussed the answers. I got some of the measuring right and so did Leanne.
Tomorrow we will be making Lemonade in school. It will be fun. We measured how many cups, we need how many lemons and oranges we need and we had to measure how much water we need. Our teacher is making the syrup. She will bring it in to the school. We can’t wait to taste it and I hope it will be nice

Nature Walk.

On Thursday last week we went for a nature walk. We saw lots of things like blackberries, rosehips, nettles, sycamore trees, oak trees, apples growing on trees and ferns. We had to wear wellies because there were big puddles half way down the road. We heard the birds singing, and the water splashing. We picked alot of them things that we saw and brought them back to the school to press. When we got back to the school the smaller class had put fake spiders and a few stones into the teachers shoes, it was very funny but we want to get them back! And trust me we will. When we get the time! Here is a picture of us and things we saw:

Maths’ Week

Hi,

This week is maths week. We go on the DS’s every morning. It is great fun. DS’s are Nintendos and they are a game consoles. You can play fun soccer games and maths games. We play ‘More Brain Training’ and ‘Maths Training’. It is so cool. We go on the laptops to play on Mangahigh. This has all different challenges for your maths skills.

We also use our laptops for Scratch and you can see some examples from last week below.

Also, for Maths week, we are making a collage of ten centimetres squares and when we are finished we will put it up on the wall so everyone can see it. It will be 1m x 1m if we get enough squares.

We are making lemonade at the end of the week. It is going to be great fun and nice to drink. I can’t wait to here more about you.
