Health and fitness announcement from the North Pole – Fógra sláinte ón bPol Thuaidh

As part of a new health and fitness programme for the reindeers, Santa has requested that, this year, children would leave out special reindeer food for the reindeers on Christmas Eve. This food is, of course, highly magical but, in this instance, it is also very healthy. It forms part of the new special healthy diet for reindeers in the North Pole who, unfortunately, have not been eating so healthily in recent months. So, management in the North Pole suggest very strongly that everyone should leave out at least one sachet of this special reindeer food to help the reindeer have enough energy for their arduous journey around the whole world.

SN an Inbhir, has been specially chosen as one of the few schools in the country who can supply this food, because of its track record with keeping fit and healthy eating. Because we are currently working so enthusiastically towards our third Active Schools flag, we have been deemed worthy of this great honour!

If you would like to join our campaign to keep the reindeers fit and healthy for their big night, please buy at least one packet. They are for sale in local shops, through the school at only €3 each. Mad Hair

Bhí spraoi ag gach duine inniú nuair a thóg muid páirt i Mad Hair Day.

Ag ullmhú don Nollaig – Preparing for Christmas

Tá muid ag ullmhú don Nollaig i SN an Inbhir faoi lathair. Tá muid ag foghlaim faoin gcéad Nollaig agus ag reitiú don Nollaig.  Tá muid ag féachaint ar gach duine sa seomra ranga ag déanamh random acts of kindness don Aidbhint agus ag leanúint an feilire Aidbhinte ó (Cumann na bPáistí Miseantach) WMI. Tá muid ag lasadh coinnle sa bhfleasc Aidbhinte gach seachtain agus  ag rá paidreacha do dhaoine eile.  Tá máinséar againn sa seomra ranga agus tá an seomra maisithe againn.

Tá muid ag reitiú  don ceolchoirm sa seipéil ar an 19ú chomh maith. Beidh muid ag seinnt ceol agus ag déanamh ceoldrám faoi scéal na Nollag. Beidh gach páiste sa scoil ag glacadh páírt ann.

Gaelic football

My favourite hobby  is Gaelic football. I like Gaelic because it’s an Irish sport and it’s good fun playing it.

I play with Kilcommon too. I’ve only been there two years, and so far we have won 2 cups, 1 shield and 1 plaque. The shield was for winning national school competition  and the plaque was for the Knockmore blitz for U10’s.

When we won the National school shield it was class! We beat Bonniconlon. It was a brilliant game. It was good beating them but better lifting the shield! And the score was tight all the way through the match.

The plaque we won wasn’t as good. It was for coming 4th in the whole thing but it was better than nothing. But when we were going home we had no plaque… only our medals. The man in charge forgot to give us our plaque! When we were half-way home the man rang John Walker, our manager, to explain that he forgot to give us the plaque.

We were kind of annoyed that we didn’t get it there but we were happy to have won it. I picked this as my favourite hobby because I have played in all of these games and scored a few goals and points, and have won trophies with Kilcommon!

My Favourite Hobby: Irish Dancing.

My favourite hobby is Irish Dancing. Irish Dancing is the traditional form of dancing in Ireland. Many countries have their own form of traditional dance, but none of them are as well known as Irish Dancing. Irish dancing is also one of  the most advanced type of dance. there are five grades of dance, Búngrád, Ullmhúcán, Méangrád, Ardgrád and Creabhgrád. Each grade is more advanced than the other. I’m on Méangrad going on to Ardgrád. There are about 6 dances in each grade. 🙂

The reason I like Irish Dancing is because it keeps me fit and healthy. I have also made loads friends since I started, and its also really fun. I have  two lessons a week, one on Monday’s and the other one is on Wednesday’s. I love having loads of friends dancing with me.

When I’m dancing I wear white socks (poodle socks) and either ‘poms’ or Heavy shoes, I also wear a Class dress, a Class dress is a dress that only your dance school wears. There are also Solo dresses, that is a dress of your own choice. I don’t have a Solo dress, but I’m getting one soon, I have a class dress though.:)

Obviously, this means people have to make the dresses and shoes. Many people make a living from Irish Dancing. Three examples of these  people are: Dance teachers, Designers of the dresses and people who run dance shows. Dance shows are responsible for Irish Dancing becoming a worldwide phenomenon. This truly began when Michael Flatley decided to put on the show ‘Riverdance’.Riverdance caused an instant a attraction with people around the world.

Unfortunately there is a downside to the world of Irish dance. It is a VERY expensive hobby. The cost of the lessons, shoes, dresses, competitions, etc all add up to an enormous mount of money. Solo dresses can cost up to €5000 to €6000  euros. There is pressure in some dance schools, but not in mine. To take part in extreme measures  is to be noticed, this includes make-up, false tan, high bouncy wigs and glittery socks. It is unfortunate that the attention is taken off the dancing.

In the future I hope to achieve more in dancing. I love Irish dancing and i hope I continue this hobby. I’m so nervous for the All-Irelands next year but I am practising loads. 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

Random Acts of Kindness for Advent

Photo 06-12-2013 13 25 51We have been doing random acts of kindness as part of our Advent preparation. We have been watching and noticing people doing acts of kindness for others. This is what we have recorded in our classroom so far:

Orla and Ava cleaned the table and wiped it down without being asked to.

Ava helped me look for my maths copy without being asked to.

Kian offered to hang up the prayers on the tree.

Lisa helped me collect the copies and

Grace offered  Orla a hand with the stapling.

Seamus helped me collect the copies.

Lisa offered to collect the equipment.

Ava helped to get Shannon up when she helped.

Ailish helped me when I tripped.

Sophie offered to help Rosaleen instead of Niall.
