Choo Choo!🚈

Today, the 29th of April, We are going to Dublin. Four of us are going to the Google Studios in Dublin for the Eircom Junior Spider Internet Awards.

We are on the train now! We are having so much fun! We are really excited, (especially Ava). We had to get up really really early this morning. It is worth it though. We only have a few more stops before we get to Dublin. Then we will go straight to the Google Studios!

Every once and a while a man comes around and stamps our tickets. We have past through a lot of places now! Such as Castlebar, Manulla, Claremorris, Ballyhaunas, Castlerea, Roscommon, Athlone, Clara, and Tullamore.

We can’t wait until we get to Google!

TĂłraĂocht Ubh ChĂĄsca le Mata – Easter Egg Maths Hunt le Rosaleen agus Sophie

Easter Egg Maths Hunt!!!

Today we did an Easter egg maths hunt with MĂșinteoir MairĂn and MĂșinteoir Lorraine. Our team was RĂłisĂn, Niall and myself. The hunt was all about maths but it was fun.

First you had to get 4 maths questions correct. Straight away we got a clue it said “Go to a place where you get your environmentally friendly water”, so then we thought about the water butt. We ran outside, around the school and to the water butt there we found 3 small Easter eggs, wrapped in crepe paper. We quickly put them in the bag and got back to work again.

In no time again we had the next 4 questions correct. The next clue was “Go to the thermometer that no longer tells the correct temperature”. So we went to the old thermometer on the window sill and there, at the back, were 3 small chocolate eggs!

The last 4 questions were left. They were harder than the rest but still we got them. The last clue was to get the map. So we got the map from MĂșinteoir Lorraine and there we set off to look for the last 3 eggs. In no time we found them behind a pipe. We had finished! We got 3 Easter eggs each and they were lovely and it was REALLY fun.😃

Today we did a Easter Hunt.We were in groups. In my group, there was Ailish, Grace and myself. First, we had to answer four maths questions and then we got a clue of where our Easter Egg was. My team was the pink team there was some hard questions in it but we got through it.

We answered the questions but then the teacher had to check them to see if they were right. If they were not right we would have to try again. Eventually we’d got our first clue. The clue was in a little plastic Egg. It was in the Red Tulip then we had todo another four questions to get another clue there was three Eggs

Then we had to estimate how long the distance from the front door to the gate was. Then we had to measure it. We got 9 metres. The next thing was we had to estimate was how much water would the bottle hold.We estimated 750 but the real mesurment was 800mls. We were very close.

We got our second clue. It was near the book shelf in the corridor. We looked through the book shelf and we found it wrapped in a purple wrapper. We had to get a map to get the final egg. On the map, there was a map of the school. the last clue was in the shelter on the table.

I really enjoyed the Easter Hunt and next year we might be doing another one with the younger children.

Voki and The Suitcase Kid

The Suitcase Kid is a novel by Jacqueline Wilson and we have enjoyed reading it in class. You can read a recent review of it in  The Guardian  here : http://www.theguardian.com/childrens-books-site/2014/mar/23/review-suitcase-kid-jacqueline-wilson

We have been using Voki to show how one character in The Suitcase Kid might have spoken to another. See Grace and Amy’s versions:

Our mystery is solved!

spidrop3Screen Shot 2014-04-02 at 21.34.24
Some weeks ago we received a mysterious package in the post. We blogged about it to see if we could unravel our mystery.

Now we have solved it! It was an intriguing introduction to an art project we are hoping to do with Haast Primary School in New Zealand.
Artist Kate Buckley, is inviting us to work alongside a school in New Zealand as art investigators. She says:

‘Special Art Investigators work to find out as much as they can about both their place and their partner place. This means you and the students from Hannah’s clearing (Haast) will have to be in touch with each other- sending things back and forth between the two places.
Special Art Investigators use the arts when they do their work- drawing, writing, finding out, acting, painting , dancing, using technology and making things- whatever kind of art you like .
When I’m in Ireland we can work together make artwork about our own place and about our partner place. But you don’t need me to start making things- you can begin whenever you like.’

Our exciting project is just beginning. We sent some clues to Haast School, New Zealand to introduce ourselves, and to see if they could discover who we were and where we were from. We sent some maps, some Irish sweets and biscuits, some tourist information, flags and shamrocks, a copy of Primary Planet and a QR code for our blog.

Our new friends are clever investigators and they cracked the clues! They have asked us the following questions written in bold type and these are our replies from Ailish, Orla, Sophie, Niall, Amy and Lisa.

Final Week of Quadblogging

We are now in our final week of our Quadblogging project with three other schools, which are all based in the UK:
Horningsham Primary School at http://horningshamowls.wordpress.com
Humberstone Junior Academy at http://humboblog.primaryblogger.co.uk
and Bidston Avenue Primary School at http://kidblog.org/Miss_Taylor/.

This week our school will again be the focus class allowing the other three classes to visit and comment on the our class blog. We like having visitors to our blog and we love when they leave comments.

As we visit each school’s blog, we read about the school, learn a little about life and learning in that school and then we leave a comment. Our comments are always positive and encouraging and we remember to spell words correctly, using full stops and capital letters. We always re-read our comments before submitting. See Mrs. Yollis’ children’s suggestions here:
