Whistleblast Erris Schools’ Concert

image

Today we went to the Arís Inis Gluaire to preform our concert with Mary Curran and Conor Lenihan.

First when we went in we went into the auditorium to practice. All the schools gathered round the piano and warmed up a bit. Then we started to really practice. Our first song was ‘Feeling Groovy’ and it was a really groovy song. Then we sang ‘Slow Down’ – a song we composed ourselves.

After we had a little break outside but it was only a 15 minute break. When we went in again we sang Una FortivaLa Grimait is a Italian song. We practiced a few more songs and then we had a 45 minute break we went to the park.

When we came in again it was show time. It started at 1:00 and ended at 1:30 Mary and Conor played a few tunes too. People thought we were great.

I really enjoyed it I would love to do it again.😄

In the morning we went to Arís Inis Gluaire to preform in the “Slow down” concert with Mary Curran and Conor Lenihan from the Whistleblast Quartet.

We preformed with other schools like Barnatra NS, Binghamstown and SN Dú Thuama.

Through out our practice we got to have 2 breaks and for the second break we got to go to the park for about an hour or so.

At around 12:30 Junior classes and parents from most of the schools came into watch our performance including our own Junior room.

The concert started at 1:00 and ended at around 1:40. We sang songs like “Feelin Groovy”, “The Hills Of Donegal” and loads more!

I really enjoyed the performance but I was a bit nervous at the start. I think we did an outstanding job and I think that the whole audience enjoyed it!

Today we went to Aras Inis Gluaire to preform a a concert called ‘ Slow Down’. It was preformed in front of parents and students of Belmullet and it started at 1:00.

We arrived at 10:00 to practice. We had two breaks, one for 15mins and one for 45mins.

We preformed 6 songs 1. Kyle Kye Kule 2. Fellin’ groovy. 3. Una Furtiva Lagrima. 4. Hills of Donegal 5. Slow down. 6. Téir Abhaile Rúi.

The experience was absolutely amazing. The atmosphere was brilliant. I have never experienced anything like it ever before. I was nervous before we walked on but when we were on it went away.

My overall favourite would by far be ‘ Hills Of Donegal’. I enjoyed it and would love to do it again.

My instrument was a drum with a stick.

The performance started at 1.00 o’clock. There were lots of people there. Múinteior Deborah said we were AMAZING. I was really nervous. The show was brilliant and I had a GREAT day.

Today (the 01/03/16) my class and I went to Aras Inis Gluaire.  We preformed a concert in which “The Whistleblast Quartet’s” Mary Curan and Conor Linehan accompanied us.

We had practiced for  the concert by doing workshops with Mary.

Conor is a pianist and he was amazing. He played the piano through all of our songs.

Mary Curan is a woman of many talents, she can play a variety of forgein instruments; gambo etc., play the french horn, strum the guitar all while singing along amazingly.

Three schools came with us Dohooma N.S, Barnatra N.S and Binghamstown N.S. I knew a few people from each of the schools, especially Barnatra as they are the nearest to Inver.

My school and all the schools, Mary and Conor wrote a song entitled “Slow down”. We preformed our song at the concert.

The music Mary and Conor taught us was very good. The songs were; “The Hills Of Donegal.”, “Feelin’ Groovy.”, “Una Furtiva Langrima.”, “Slow Down. (Our song)”, “Téir Abhaile Rúi.” and “Kye kye Kule.”

Before the concert started we went to the park. We had lots of good fun there.

When the concert was about to start we were all buzzing with excitement.

We sang our songs and everyone clapped.

At the end we all took a bow.

The Introductory piece was from Gershwin.

Then we had a piece from Mozart.

Óglaí na h-Éireann / The Defence Forces present Irish flag and Proclamation

IMG_1666

On Wednesday we had a visit from Corporal Des Padden and Seargent PJ Maloney from Oglaí na h-Eireann. For some of you that might not know what “Oglaí na h-Eireann” is it is Ireland’s Defence Force.🇨🇮

When they first came in we played a marching tune on our music instruments called “Fáinne Geall an Lae”. It sounded great and I think Des and PJ enjoyed it!🇨🇮

Next they talked to us about our country’s flag and what it really means to them and what it should mean to all of us! It shouldn’t be dragged around someone’s shoulders as a cape or used as a sign for a football match. It should be hung on the highest pole for everybody to see!🇨🇮

They then talked to us about what they do as soldiers. For example PJ went to Bosnia to help all the children go to school safely when Bosnia was at war. After more talking about what they do, they then awarded us with our national flag.🇨🇮

Des then went through all the rules to keep the flag safe, for example it can’t touch the ground, it has to be hung on the highest pole, you have to take it down every evening and loads more! Also all the schools in Ireland will be raising their flags on the 15th of March 2016 at the exact same time which will be really cool!🇨🇮

It was an honour to have the soldiers award us with the flag and even for them to come to our school. I had a great day and learned so many new things about my country and more! We even got pictures taken with the soldiers!🇨🇮

National Flag

On Wednesday soldiers from the Irish Defense forces came in to us to give us the national flag. It was good fun👍. Their names were Des and PJ .There was lots of work in this. We had to learn the national anthem and to learn the proclamation as well as play a marching tune on our instruments.

First we looked at the flag. Then Des told us about the rules of the flag. One of them was about not writing on the flag and another was not to wear it like coat.

Lucy was the person to received the flag on our behalf .

Then we talked about our flag and how we got our flag.  Then we asked a few questions and they answered all of them. Then we took some photographs.

It was a great day!

On Wednesday we had a visit from the Corporal Des Padden and Sergeant PJ Maloney from the Oglái Na h-Éireann. Oglái Na h-Eireann is the Defence Force in Ireland.🇮🇪

When they came in first we played our tune called Fáinne Geall An Lae which is a marching tune. Then they talked a little bit about the 1916 rising. After they talked about 1916 we sang The National Anthem. I think they really enjoyed it.

They presented the National flag to Lucy and a book about 1916. They told us that this flag can’t touch the ground or be around you like a cape. It had to be raised on the highest flag pole for everyone can see it.  Everyone took a picture of Lucy and the solders. Then we went outside to take a picture with them and the whole entire school. I really hope they come again.😄.

The End!!!!

Army

Ogalaí na h-Eireann’s Corporal Des Padden and my uncle Sergeant PJ Maloney came to our school. They gave us a flag which my school and all of the other schools in Ireland will raise on the 15th of March 2016. We must respect the flag and raise it and lower it every day to remember all of those who have lived and passed in the 1916 Rising and also remember those who died in 1916.

The men talked about their uniforms. PJ has three stripes on his arm because he is a Sergeant. Des has only two because he is a lower rank then PJ (Des is a Corporal). PJ has a pin on his shirt because he is a fluent Irish speaker. Des doesn’t have one but he is learning. Des has three medals and PJ has five medals.

Talent Show

On Friday the 20th of March wich is today there will be a Talent Show hosted in our community centre. There is going to be lots of acts participating from our school. I will be preforming an Irish Dance with my friend Rosaleen. Our whole dance is all cheographed by ourselves so we’ve beem practicing for a long time now!!! I will also be performing another Irish Dance called the Slip Jig with my other friend Roísín!!! I’m kind of nervous but excited at the same time.😉😳

All of our room will be playing instruments to Bellringers Polka and will be singing and playing The Rattlin Bog. The children from the Junior Classroom be singing a song called Bone Constructer and will also be playing and singing Twinkle Little Star.

There’s lots of dancing, singing and even acting wich I’m so excited to see. Hopefully there will be a few acts from parents and other people from outside the school. There will also be a raffle and refreshments there wich is really good. Hopefully I could win something in the raffle!!!😂

I think having a Talent Show is such a good idea to showcase your talent. Now that we’re having a Talent Show everyone can see all of the different talents that everyone have. Like everyone can see that Orla,Lisa and April can sing, Amy April and Ava can act, and that Lisa and Ava can Irish Dance and lots more.

Why not organise a Talent Show in your community to show everyone your talents? 👍

Music workshop with Mary Curran

imageLast week, a person named Mary Curran came to our school. Mary did a music workshop with us. There were lots of instruments like the French horn and a big bongo kinda thing. Also there were shakers and cling things. There were all the instruments.
We also had to shout our names out really loudly at first but then we had to be as quiet as a mouse.
It was a good day at our school.
In fact, it was the best day yet at the school.

Mary Curan came to my school last week. First thing we talked about was volume. Volume means to get louder and quieter. For instance if you turned it up the volume, the sound got louder and if you turned it down it got quieter.
Secondly, she did an exercise where we were like a volume button. When she pointed to us we shouted our names but only if you were near the top of the line and as we got nearer to the bottom of the line we got quieter and quieter, I liked doing that it was fun!
Next we got lots of different instruments and we did a nice tune.
Last we just played around with the instruments, then we did another tune it was fun!
I hope Mary comes again soon!

Today a lady called Mary Curran came into our school to do a music workshop with us. First junior infants to 2nd class went in till fist break then we went in.
First we copied everything Mary did. Then she told us about volume. Next, she showed us some instruments and she showed us the French horn. She got a tube the length of 20 tin whistles and made music from it. Then she gave us an instrument each and put us in groups. We did beats with them and then we changed instruments.
When we finished my class helped her put her things into her car. I enjoyed it.

We gathered around in a semi-circle in the middle room. Mary showed us loads of fascinating instruments. She even let us play beats with them. As far as I can remember, here are the names of some of them!
French horn
Bongo drums
Clash cymbals
Thats all I remember! I really enjoyed today and Mary was funny and kind. I definitely want to learn how to play the French horn!

Today a woman called Mary came to our school to do a music workshop with us. She took the small ones from muinteor Rachel’s class. We could here the little ones laughing from the middle room where the workshop was. We where going into the middle room after break. When break was over we went into the middle room and picked where we wanted to sit. She started off by showing us her musical instruments. She started banging on all the drums. then she said to clap. She made music out of clapping. She gave out instruments to everyone. We went in groups to do a big musical show. It was really cool and I wish she can come again before I leave for secondary school.

Zumba

Zumba

Today an instructor called Katie came to our school to do Zomba.

First she did the Zumba with the small children in Muinteoir Deborah class. When it was our turn, we did a dance. The dance was called Sparkle (I think). The second dance I think was called YOYO. I can’t remember the next two dances. When it was done we did some stretches. The stretches where really good and stretched our bones and muscles.

I really loved doing everything. The music was so cool.
