Making Leaves

On Tuesday, the 11th of February, our school made cardboard leaves. Two women named Bridie and Aiga came to our school to help us make them. It was really fun making the leaves. On the back of each leaf we were told to write something. On the back of one of my leaves I wrote “Keep Calm and Rock’n’ Roll” and on the front I drew an electric guitar.

Today, the 13th of February, we went to see where our leaves would be put. All of our leaves would be put on a handmade tree. This handmade tree was created by an artist in Canada. The artist wanted to get lots of children to design leaves for it and then the tree would be passed around the world! I really enjoyed making the leaves!

Mental Man Magnetic: My Favourite Article from Primary Planet

(From The Primary Planet February 2014)
My favourite article from this month’s Primary Planet is about a man from Georgia who says his body is magnetic. He is putting on a show to prove his weird talent! Etibar Elchyer had the audience rubbing their eyes to see was this actually happening, apparently he balanced 53 spoons on his back and his chest.

The show went on by him pulling a Mercedes car, attached by rope to a metal sheet, and he actually pulled the car for 30 seconds.

Etibar reckons he’ll pull a empty train carriage and an aeroplane.

Some people think human magnetism is a sign of supernatural powers and others think it happens because of sticky-skin.

The End!!

Our visit to Áras Inis Gluaire

A long time ago scientists put a special buoy in the ice in the North Pole to measure how deep the water is,how salty the water is and how cold the water is. Then it started to drift with the waves down the Atlantic Ocean. Then another iceberg slid over the top of it and it lost its signal for a long time. But then while it was sliding down with the waves It got its signal back again! The iceberg had melted! But then it lost the signal again as it went down the waves and then the waves brought the buoy to Blacksod Bay where a man called Fergus found it.He called someone to come check it out. The man told him it was a buoy that came from the North Pole. He told the civic center and then decided to display it so that people could come and visit it! Our school went to visit it. It was so cool ! It was yellow. The buoy must have met LOADS of mammals along the way, dolphins, polar bears, penguins, seals and maybe even whales! We could not lift the bouy! It was so heavy! A visit from an artist!

Last week two artists came to visit us. They showed us paper leaves and asked us to design our own. I made a patch with the paper leaves. They will put them up in the civic centre soon for everyone to see. They will be part of a tree. There names were Aiga & Bridie . We went to the civic centre & saw other people’s leaves. There were messages on them too.

Quadblogging

We are about to begin our Quadblogging project with three other schools, which are all based in the UK:
Horningsham Primary School at http://horningshamowls.wordpress.com
Humberstone Junior Academy at http://humboblog.primaryblogger.co.uk
and Bidston Avenue Primary School at http://kidblog.org/Miss_Taylor/.

As a group of four, each week, a different class will be the focus class allowing the other three classes to visit and comment on the focus class blog. Over a cycle of 4 weeks, each class has their week as the focus class. Each Quad gets to decide how many cycles are completed and when you have completed the cycles, you simply come back and register for a new Quad. More information available at http://www.quadblogging.com.

Listen to David Mitchell, the key designer of Quadblogging, speak about it:
