Our visit to Áras Inis Gluaire

A long time ago scientists put a special buoy in the ice in the North Pole to measure how deep the water is,how salty the water is and how cold the water is. Then it started to drift with the waves down the Atlantic Ocean. Then another iceberg slid over the top of it and it lost its signal for a long time. But then while it was sliding down with the waves It got its signal back again! The iceberg had melted! But then it lost the signal again as it went down the waves and then the waves brought the buoy to Blacksod Bay where a man called Fergus found it.He called someone to come check it out. The man told him it was a buoy that came from the North Pole. He told the civic center and then decided to display it so that people could come and visit it! Our school went to visit it. It was so cool ! It was yellow. The buoy must have met LOADS of mammals along the way, dolphins, polar bears, penguins, seals and maybe even whales! We could not lift the bouy! It was so heavy! Ag Déanamh Ime – Making Butter

Inniú rinne muid im le Múinteoir Tracey. Ní raibh cuinneog againn ach chuir muid uachtar i bprócaí agus chroich muid é ar feadh 15 nóiméad nó mar sin. Dhóirt muid an bhláthach ón bpróca and chuir muid salann san im. Measc muid é ansin agus d’ith muid é ar arán donn. Bhí an-spórt againn.

Today we made butter with Múinteoir Tracey. We had no butter churn, so we poured cream into a jam jar and shook it vigorously. After a quarter of an hour, or so, we poured the buttermilk from the jar. We then mixed salt with the butter and shaped into cuboids. We ate it with brown soda bread and it was lovely!

Na Chéad Fheirmeoirí – The First Farmers

Tháinig na chéad fheirmeoirí go h-Éireann timpeall agus 5000 bliain ó shin. Thóg siad tithe simplí. Thug siad aire do ba, caoirigh agus muca. Bhí siad in ann barraí a chur agus rinne siad uirlísi mar tua, harpún agus sleá. Thuig siad conas potaí a dhéanamh agus rinne siad a bprócaí féín.

Bhí cuid de na feirmeoirí seo ina gcónaí in aice linn i gCéide:

The French Revolution ~ Réabhlóid na Fraince

Bhí na gnáthdhaoine sa Fhrainc an-bhocht timpeall agus 1789. Bhí cáin mór le h-ioc acu agus ní raibh i neart bia acu. Ag an am céana, bhí an rí, Louis XVI agus a bhean, Marie Antoinette, agus a gcairde, an-saibhir ar fad. Bhí na gnáthdhaoine ag eirí an-chrosta.
Ar deireadh, shocraigh ar na gnáthdhaoine an Bastille a ionsadh. Ghabh siad an Bastille, lig siad saor na príosúnaithe agus fuair siad go leor gunnaí. Bhí an reabhlóid tosaithe. Mharaigh na daoine bochta na mílte doaine uasal…agus an rí agus Marie Antoinette. Bhain siad úßáid as an gilitín. Glaotar Ré an Uafáís ar an am seo.
Bunaíodh rialtas nua sa Fhrainc ag an am sin agus bhí Liberté, Equalité et Fraternité mar mhana acu.

An Dara Cogadh Domhanda

Thosaigh an dara cogadh domhanda i 1939. D’ionsaigh Hitler, seansailéir na Gearmáine, an Pholainn. Theastaigh uaidh cumhacht na Gearmáine a leathnú. Chuaigh an Bhreatain Mhór agus an Fhrainc in aghaidh na Gearmáine agus thosaigh an dara cogadh domhanda.
Bhí sé an-deacair earraí mar oráistí, bananaí, eadaí nó peitril a fháil in Éirinn ag an am sin. Bhí ar dhaoine cartái ciondála a thabairt don siopadóir chun rudaí mar tae agus siúcra a cheannacht.

The food we eat

Over the past few weeks we were learning about the food we eat. We learnt about lots of good facts. We learnt about how everything was first made. First there was a big explosion . that made the stars, the moon, sun and all the planets then one star exploded then that made more and more and more and more and more! Then we learnt about a little dog called Paw’s and there was a storm coming. The dog went under the table. He knew that something was not right. On the first day Maureen came we made soup. Some people liked it and some people did not like it. On the next day Maureen came she spoke about habitats and species. She gave us all a habitat or a species. I was a frog. Frogs belong to the pond habitat. We used thread to show how all the habitats and species are connected.
