Marathon

Barbara Deane, who is Eve’s mum, has volunteered to run a marathon in Kildare on May the 13th for Inver National School. It is an amazing thing for someone to do and we are delighted she is doing it for us. We are going to raise money through her marathon for the school. We hope she does well and we are all cheering for her.

On May the 13th Barbara Deane is doing a marathon in aid of Inver N.S It’s 26.2 miles long and she has to run the full thing! She is also fundraising for our school. She does a lot of training. Everyday she goes in to Belmullet, past Barnatra to Pullatomas then back to Gortbrack where she lives. We found out that if you stop in the middle of the marathon you won’t be able to move as fast because your knees lock up and you become exhausted and ‘hit the wall’.
Barbara is a very brave women to do a Marathon. We wish her the best and we say ‘Go Barbara!’

Cycle safety

On the 19th of April a man called Jerry came to the school to start our programme in bike safety. The programme is been run by the Mayo County Council and the R.S.A.

First Jerry taught us how to do a bike check.A bike check is when you check to see if the wheels are tight, the handle bars are tight ,the saddle is at your right height and the brakes are working. Also it is important to check to see if your helmet is fitted properly.

After checking our bikes and helmets we moved onto learning safety skills.Jerry placed two lines of cones and then you had to cycle straight in between the lines of cones.THis was to teach us to cycle straight when a car is passing you. Then Jerry taught us to cycle in and around the cones, this was to teach us about our balance. Finally we had a slow race, who ever touched the ground with their feet was out of the game.I won that game.

I had a lovely day with Jerry and can’t wait till the next session.

Letter writing

We are going to be writing to children in Dublin.
We will be writing to them on Monday.
We are learning all about what happens to a letter when you post it.
Our teacher told us who we were going to be writing to.
The other children will be writing back to us when we write to them.
We can’t wait till they write to us. We are very excited.
