Middle Room✨✨ Nov 15th-Dec 3rd ✨✨

Here is snippet from the past 3 weeks in the middle room.

We have been learning about Alexander Graham Bell and phones in History. We have started to move onto Explanation writing (oral at first) and we learned/explained  Why it rains? (The water Cycle) in Geography. Everyone is working hard on written presentation and there is a huge improvement all round. I hope all the boys and girls are proud of themselves👌

The children enjoyed the strand of Drawing and their Still life fruit bowls are so unique and beautiful. This week the children made and decorated a little clay decoration for the crann nollaig sa halla.

We have finished our topic Bia and have practised phrases such as ‘ Tá___uaim.’  – ‘I need a ___’

Is breá liom  ____   – I love ___    ‘Is fuath liom ___ ‘    ‘I really dislike ____’

An ndearna tú—?   Did you do? /Did you make?

Ar ith tú?  Did you eat ..?     D’ith /Níor ith mé  as well as plenty of reading in the Aimsir Chaite (past tense ) and Aimsir Laithreach (present tense)

We have moved onto Caitheamh Aimsire (pastimes). We will practise phrases such as

‘Ba mhaith liom bheith ag_____’ –  I like to _____

An féidir leat ___? Can you __? Is/ní féidir liom. We also work on gramadach (grammar) each week as well as plenty of reading from our chart in class and our new books.

In Maths we were learning about lines of Symmetry in Nature, Architecture and Objects. We are all the time working on our number skills, with a particular focus on the hundred square, number patterns, multiplication, odd and even numbers and addition and subtraction problems. (tens and units  & HTU )

In Drama our focus has been mime and thought tracking . It is lots of fun. We will continue this in the next fortnight also.

In SPHE and as part of the Wellbeing Fun Friends programme, children have been focusing on Red thoughts and Green thoughts. While Red thoughts are perfectly normal and ok to have, they are unhelpful.

Red thoughts STOP us having fun, STOP us giving things a go and STOP us feeling great. Green thoughts  help us keep going, try new things and feel better.

In our Monday lessons and with the in class support of Múinteoir Lorraine, we practice changing Red thoughts to Green (helpful) thoughts. Examples   Red = I can’t do this.    Green = I can keep trying/ With time I will get better/ I can give my best effort.    We are trying to encourage children to be the BOSS of their thoughts and feelings and behaviours. We remind them to Choose GREEN ! The more they practise (and ourselves too☺)the better we become at it. It would be so beneficial for families to use the same language at home to reinforce the concept.

Keep up the great work with the reading in both Irish and English at home.

✨✨Middle Room ✨✨Sept 20th -Oct.1st

A little look back on the past fortnight in the middle room. We had the pleasure of taking part in a zoom webinar with none other than David Walliams. David answered some of the questions sent in by ourselves and other children in Ireland. He also read from 2 of his books which was really enjoyable and we got to meet his cute dog who decided to jump on screen. Over the past fortnight we have continued to work on our recount which can be viewed in the children’s seesaw folder. We had fun practising our rounding off and place value knowledge through Maths games and had lots of fun in drama with some mime and improvisation exercises. Always a giggle!! The children were wonderfully creative designing and building their very own playgrounds in Art. We had some fun learning our new mental maths games , especially IN THE BANK. Give it a go at home on a rainy day! As a little treat to mark the First Holy Communion children’s special day, the whole school was treated to some PIZZA!!!YUM!!  We look forward to an exciting few weeks ahead in the lead up to Halloween.  D. ✨✨Middle room ✨✨ September 6th-17th

Here is  a  snapshot of the past fortnight!  We had great fun in the build up to Mayo Day and the big game.  Over the past 2 weeks we have  been working hard on our spelling strategies and written presentation. We will continue to work on the Recount Genre in English and already I can hear a big improvement in our léamh Gaeilge.  Lots of fun has been had using our playing cards to learn our tables and Hollywood awaits some stars that shone as we practised our drama techniques. Best wishes to our current 3rd class who receive their First Holy Communion tomorrow. May God bless you on your special day and always!

Middle Room – ✨✨Our first week back 2021✨✨

Our first week has flown by! This week we focused on revision in Maths and practised our mental Maths addition and subtraction using playing cards. It was lots of fun. Our focus for cómhrá Gaeilge was Mé Féin and will continue to be for the next few weeks . In SPHE we recapped our class rules and how to show kindness and respect to ourselves and others. We also started a ‘getting to know each other’ activity which will be completed over the coming week. In doing so we brainstormed lots of verbs and adjectives.  Children participated in Buddy Reading, morning riddles and puzzles, word of the day  and we practised good presentation when writing. Our PE focus was basketball skills and as a special reward we had extra time out on Friday for a couple of games of dodgeball. The biggest challenge was dodging the midgets!!! The children enjoyed some fun sensory time with kinetic sand and we listened to a little bit of our Novel Charlotte’s Web to finish each day. Looking forward to an exciting week ahead as we await  the All Ireland Final!

✨✨Junior Room✨✨ June 14th -18th

We had such a fun Active week. It has gone by in a whirl😰 One or 2 activities were changed during the week due to weather but none the less were very enjoyable. I hope you had lots of fun at home too participating in your own activities!

Today’s trip to the beach was so lovely. We had our lunch first then spent the remainder of the time digging, splashing and a little frisbee time.

The maternity ward in class was very busy also with the arrival of 4 painted lady butterfly. We have been looking after them well, adding flowers we picked on our nature walk to their garden and also a chopped mandarin for them to sip on. We expect our 5th butterfly to emerge over the weekend. Next Tuesday/ Wednesday we will release them into their natural environment where very soon the cycle will start all over again.

Check out our photos below for a little insight into the activities .  Children have received their Active week certs and also have a small gift for dad/ grandad in their mála for Father’s Day. Have a lovely weekend!

🌟🌟Junior Room – June 8th – 11th🌟🌟

This week we learned about Myths and Legends. Our focus was The salmon of Knowledge. The children responded to the story through drawing which was also our focus in Art. See drawing below of The salmon of Knowledge and Underwater Scene. Each one unique just like ourselves!

Our chrysalides have now been transferred to their butterfly garden and we are waiting patiently for the exciting moment of emergence! This stage is called Metamorphosis (the stage between the caterpillar and the Butterfly).

We had fun exploring our topic of Capacity in Maths and we also explored addition of odd numbers and even numbers. I wonder who can remember what secrets we discovered when adding odd and odds? even and even? and odd and even numbers?

Senior infants blew our socks off this week with their Léamh Gaeilge. The Junior infants were so impressed that rated them with top marks!!
