Learning HTML

We have been experimenting with learning HTML. We have created a project called ‘Our Favourite Things’ with our HTML coding.
We usually work with Scratch, for animations and games, or code.org to practice coding, but this term we tried HTML.
Our project can be viewed at www.inver.org/HTML/. We are delighted to learn that our HTML project has been shortlisted for the Junior Spider Awards 2015!

Green Schools: Walk on Wednesday

image

Today we had a WOW day at school. WOW stands for Walk On Wednesday. Today was our first day trying the project! Half of us met at the end of the Gorthbrack road and the others met up at Inver estate. My sister and I went down to Gorthbrack road and met up with the other children and adults there. When we were all set to go, Eva gave Ava, Seamus,Liam and I a banner to hold that said ‘ We are walking to school’ We went to the top of the line and began to walk, everyone then followed us 💂😋

We met up with the other people who walked from the other side of the road. We all went into the school and took a picture outside 😀.

Once we were finished we went back inside and waited for Eva to set up a giant snakes and ladders game. When she was ready, she called us out to play the game. It was really fun! You had to role the big dice and what ever number you rolled you would have to go to that number. If you landed on a number with a question you would have to answer a question about saving the environment and if you got it right you would get another go 👐👍

I really enjoyed WOW day and I hope we will continue doing this each Wednesday, so we will be saving the environment and keeping ourselves fit and healthy 🏃🌺☺️

Today the 25 of March this women called Eva McIntyre came into our school from the An Taisce.

Today is WOW day. WOW day means Walk on Wednesday. All of the people from Gorthbrack and onwards met up at the end of the Gorthbrack road. The people that were from the estate on wards started at the start of the footpath at the church.

Later on in the day, myself and my class went outside to play a life-sized game called snakes and ladders but it was about WOW day and saving the environmen.

I really enjoyed our day with Eva. It was really fun.

from Orla’s Blog 😊

Today, the 25th of March 2015, a woman from Green Schools called Eva came to visit us for our first WOW day (Walk On Wednesday). We have met Eva a few times before but since it was our very first WOW day she decided to come visit us to see how we got on and to do some activities related to the Green Schools theme which is travel. The reason we are doing WOW day is because it is to do with Green Schools and it will help us to aim for our next Green Flag. It also produces less CO2 which means it is good for the environment and it is good exercise for us as well.

At nine o’ clock in the morning everybody met up at the two starting points for walking. One was for people who live closer to the estate and the other one was for people who live closer to Gorthbrack. I live closer to the estate so I had to Park and Stride along with a lot of other people. If you’re wondering what Park and Stride means it means if you drive to a certain spot, park and then walk the rest of the way. There weren’t too many people from our side compared to the amount of people that walked from the bottom of Gorthbrack road. We arrived at the school first and shortly afterwards when the others arrived we took a few pictures of everyone in front of the schools Green Flag.

Before little break Eva played a game with us. The game was like a life size “Snakes and Ladders” but it was to do with Green Schools and a way of getting to school while trying not to use much CO2 on your way there. In the end April won the game.

I am glad that we have started doing WOW day since it is good for the environment as well as ourselves! I hope that we can do it more often from now on!😊

Today we did a thing called WOW day with Eva from An Taisce. WOW day stands for Walk on Wednesday. It is really fun. We went down to the Gorthbrack crossroad and walked with every one.

After that we took pictures.

Then, we played snakes and ladders. It was fun! We are hoping to do it every wednesday. Hopefully I will be there on time, next time!

From Jack’s Blog

Today Eva came to visit us! We had a WOW day, (Walk on Wednesday) I couldn’t do it because I have a bad hip but I saw them walking and they were great!

Before little break we went outside to play Eva’s version of snakes and ladders but it was life size!! You had to ‘walk from home to school’ using as little CO2 as possible!

We want to try to stop global warming by not polluting the air with CO2 , so we try to carpool or walk places that aren’t to far away from where we live! We are always trying to raise awareness in our school and so that’s why WOW day is so important to us!!

If we can try to get more people to walk places, this world will be a better place!
From Ailish’s Blog

Today, a woman that we worked with before, Eva, came to our school! It was WOW day (Walk On Wednesday) as well so she met us at the crossroad and we walked to school. Some parents came along for the stroll and the people at the front held a banner that showed people we were part of WOW day!

We played a life size game of Snakes And Ladders out on the astro turf. It was a Green Schools edition so each time you landed on a question mark, Eva would ask us questions based on Green Schools! Some of the questions included, “What stuff do you put in the Recycling Bin?”, “How does walking to school save energy” We learned a lot!

We also learned that CO2 from cars rises up into the air and is not at all good for the environment!

That’s why WOW days exists.

Look at Kian in the All-Ireland schools collaboration video, produced in line with the celebration of National GAA Go Games Week, 2015. Each of the 32 counties passes the ball to each other through a variety of Gaelic games, and Kian from Rang 5, is representing Mayo. He played his shot near Inver National School, with Ballyglass Lighthouse in the background.

WOW day

http://www.greenschoolsireland.org/resources/travel.216.htmlNext Wednesday, 25th March, we will be launching our first WOW (Walk on Wednesday) day, as part of our Green Schools’ programme.

We are working towards our fourth green flag now, and this one is based on Travel. The children are learning at school how cars are adding to the world’s CO2 emissions, which causes harm to the earth. WOW promotes the idea that children (and members of the wider community) will become more accustomed to walking to school and leaving the car behind. (Go to http://www.greenschoolsireland.org/resources/travel.216.html for more information).

Eva Gannon, from An Taisce, will attend for our first WOW, where children and staff will meet and walk to school together.

There will be two assemble points: (1) the end of the footpath near the church, and (2) the bottom of the Gorthbrack road and we ask that parents of younger children might walk with them, pelase. Everyone is asked to wear HiViz vests, to revise walking safety rules and to be at the assembly points at 9.00 am, please. There are some spare children’s HiViz vests available in the school.

Talent Show

On Friday the 20th of March wich is today there will be a Talent Show hosted in our community centre. There is going to be lots of acts participating from our school. I will be preforming an Irish Dance with my friend Rosaleen. Our whole dance is all cheographed by ourselves so we’ve beem practicing for a long time now!!! I will also be performing another Irish Dance called the Slip Jig with my other friend Roísín!!! I’m kind of nervous but excited at the same time.😉😳

All of our room will be playing instruments to Bellringers Polka and will be singing and playing The Rattlin Bog. The children from the Junior Classroom be singing a song called Bone Constructer and will also be playing and singing Twinkle Little Star.

There’s lots of dancing, singing and even acting wich I’m so excited to see. Hopefully there will be a few acts from parents and other people from outside the school. There will also be a raffle and refreshments there wich is really good. Hopefully I could win something in the raffle!!!😂

I think having a Talent Show is such a good idea to showcase your talent. Now that we’re having a Talent Show everyone can see all of the different talents that everyone have. Like everyone can see that Orla,Lisa and April can sing, Amy April and Ava can act, and that Lisa and Ava can Irish Dance and lots more.

Why not organise a Talent Show in your community to show everyone your talents? 👍

Partial Solar Eclipse 20/03/2015

Total_solar_eclipse_of_March_9_1997

A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between Earth and the Sun , and totally or partly obscures the image of the Sun for a viewer on Earth. A total solar eclipse occurs when the Moon’s apparent diameter is larger than the Sun, blocking all direct sunlight, turning day into darkness.

On Friday morning, 92% of the Sun will be covered in an almost total eclipse!
(This information is from http://astronomy.ie/solareclipsemarch2015.php)

NB:Looking at the Sun is dangerous and can result in serious and permanent damage to the eyes. The only way to look at the Sun is indirectly or through a filter.

Naomh Pádraig

shamrock_picture_jpg

Rugadh Pádraig sa Fhrainc agus gabhadh é mar sclábhaí nuair a bhí sé ina ghasúr óg. Thóg foghlaithe mara é go h-Éireann agus dhíol siad é mar sclábhaí. Thosaigh sé ar saol deacair; ag obair mar aoire ar Shliabh Mis. Bhí Pádraig an-uaigneach agus ghuí sé ar chabhair ó Dhia gach lá.

Oíche amhain, bhí broinglóid aige, go raibh air dul ar ais go dtí a mhuintir féin. D’fhag sé an sliabh agus chuaigh sé ar ais go dtí an Fhrainc.
Bhí athas ar a thuismitheoirí é a fheiceáíl arís.
Nuair a bhí se níos sinne, chuaigh Pádraig le sagartóireacht agus rinneadh easpag de tar éis cúpla bliain.

Chuaigh sé ar ais go h-Éireann, chun insint do na daoine faoi Íosa Chríost and grá Dhia. Bhain sé úsáid as an seamróg chun an tríonóid a mhíniú do na daoine.

Is é Padraig éarlamh na h-Éireann agus ceiliúrann muid a shaol ar an 17ú lá de Mhárta, gach bliain.

100 Word challenge

We are working on the 100 Word Challenge at www.100wc.net. This week’s challenge was to write 100 words about the photograph below.

Here are some of our early entries:

sofa

An unusual brick sofa is sitting there alone. Dusty leaves lie in its corners making it look like an ancient artefact from long ago. The colour of the chair reminds me of a midnight sky with its purple and dark blue colour. It’s swirly designs on each arm makes it look 3D. Tassels hang from the bottom touching the ground so that the ends are all tattered and dusty. A cat is chiseled into the sofa and sits on the top, sleeping. I don’t know would the sofa be comfortable because I’ve never sat on such a mysterious sofa… YET!!!
From Sophie’s Blog

lice strolled down a hidden path she had discovered with her kitten, Delilah. The young girl had her head in the air, appreciating the warm summer breeze which was blowing at her back. She then looked down to see Delilah skipping down the path with her little eyes closed. Suddenly the kitten came face to face with a stone bench. “How peculiar!” Thought Alice. They were tired so they sat down. “Look Delilah! A stone cat!”. Alice outstretched her hand. The cat hissed and Alice jumped back in fright. She banged her head on the bench and was rendered unconscious…
from Amy’s Blog

Sebastian and his friend Tom went for a walk down a dark, gloomy alley. It was hard to see, they were debating about who was better at soccer when suddenly Tom banged his foot off something rock hard!

There was a flickering street lamp and Sebastian thought he’d seen a sofa!!! He asked Tom if he could also see this mysterious sofa! Tom had seen it too!

The boys sat down on this sofa whiles Tom checked his toes, they were swollen, but Tom decided he wouldn’t tell his Mum about it! The boys returned every night to this mysterious sofa…….

from Amy’s Blog

I was walking in the dark forest with my friends as
we planned to build a fort somewhere along
the tall trees. One of the girls spotted a secret
entrance that, surprisingly, we never spotted
before. As we crept
through the bushes my eyes lit up with delight
as I saw a huge area with a gorgeous path and
beautiful rows of flowers.
I turned around and there I saw
an unusual chair… Not just a normal chair, it
was mysterious …kind of like it had its own story
behind it. But why was it hidden away in the
bushes?
From Lisa’s blog

The old woman was walking down the lane when she saw the blue stone sofa on the side of the road.It was glistening in the boiling hot sun. She sat down and relaxed on the warm chair and admired the trees behind her blowing in the wind. She heard the rustling of the leaves scattering around. The smell of nature was amazing. She noticed the fantastic designs on the sofa. It was just like a work of art. It looked so realistic with all the patterns. She was enjoying sitting down in the sunlight so she stayed sitting for another while.

from Ava’s Blog

I put on my ragged old jacket as I thought: ‘Why has it rained so much?’ I walked outside and saw an old cat through the trees. I watched and walked towards it but it ran. I stopped, it ran on to a big stony concrete object. I walked towards it and it became much clearer. I stood in front to examine what was a couch. It looked as if it was soft but hard too, in a way. I reached out to it. I felt it slightly move. Everything around me turned to stone. What had happened? I wonder…
from Siobhan’s Blog

It was a frosty morning and I went to meet my friends in the park. When I was walking, I passed an old couch. It looked hard and it had leaves on it. It had an old pattern on it. So when I met my friends I told them what I saw and I showed them the old couch. We sat down on the couch to have a rest. It was too hard so we just kept walking. At the evening I walked back to my friends house. When I returned to my house I saw the couch again.
from Grace’s blog

This couch may look soft but it’s not. You can see there is a cat on the back of the couch. This couch is hard. It looks like it is made of marble or stone. I think it is made of stone. The part you sit on looks soft but it’s not. There are a lot of trees and leaves around the couch and there are trees are behind the couch. The bottom looks real too. There is something black on the bottom. I wonder what that could be? It looks comfortable too. I would bring it in if it were not hard.
