Science week in the senior room

The senior room asked all of us look at their science experiments for science week.
We went up to the senior room and watched them do their fabulous experiments.
We saw all the liquids like soap and water and baking soda and they tested them to see if they were acid or bases
They also took our fingerprints and footprints and we saw them with the magnifying glass. We could see if we had whorls hoops or arches.
They also did an experiment where the jar sucked the egg inside. It was cool. They even did the alien in the kitchen experiment.
Then they did a experiment which they had a car race. They had a balloon and a toy car. They put the balloon into the car and they pinched the top of the balloon . Then they let it go. The cars moved a bit. At the very end they caused the volcano to erupt. It was brilliant. We hope they do some more experiments for us next year.

An Foireann Glas

Our new Green team was established in September 2012 and has been working hard ever since. They have been monitoring the water usage in our school by reading the water meter every Wednesday. So far we are doing really well! They are also ensuring that there are no leaking taps around the school and are encouraging us all to be more aware of our own usage of water. Keep up the good work guys!

Scratch for Halloween

This week we were working on a Halloween theme, changing costumes, adding sounds and drawing our own costumes. Press the space bar to start the animations.

Maths Week

During Maths Week we all had lots of fun doing our Maths activities. The senior room made lemonade – enough for everybody in the school! They had to work out how many lemons, water and sugar they would need and had to measure them all carefully. It tasted delicious! They also had lots of fun estimating and measuring outside too.

We also made a metre squared display. Each child had to cut out two 10cm square pieces. Some children had to cut out more than two. The older children stuck all of these 10cm pieces together to make one big Metre squared display.

In the junior room, we did lots of Maths activities. We made some patterns using ourselves and we had fun using our dice cards and our counters. We also collected pictures of Maths things that are all around us. The senior room helped us too. Some of the children played Maths Boardgames, some children got to do Maths on the IPAD and some did their Manga high challenges on the laptops. It was great fun!

Eve’s Enormous Onion

This is Eve’s onion. She planted the bulb with her Daddy a while ago and now look at the size of it! We all got a big surprise when she brought it in to show us. The children in the senior room weighed the onion. It is over 500g. That’s one big onion! When we saw the onion, it reminded us of the story called The Enormous Turnip. Anyone for onion soup???

Scratch

This week we were looking at repeats and costume changes in Scratch. We made some very interesting animations:

Making Lemonade

On Thursday we made lemonade. We did our calculations yesterday and so we knew how much much of each ingredient we needed. We used lots of ingredients. We used water, lemons, oranges, sugar, syrup. First we squeezedall the juice out of the oranges and lemons. Then we put some water in it. We had to measure it very carefully and tried not to spill it. Finally we added the sugar and water syrup. We put in the fridge to cool and we will have it at break time tomorrow.

Estimates and measuring for Maths week

On Wednesday 17/10/2012 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th were estimating and measuring things inside and outside the school. We were estimating our copies and then measuring them. These are all the things we estimated and measured in school: First we estimated the width of keyboard on the Mac. When we estimated that, we went outside the school to measure the gate of the school. After that, the last thing we measured was the pillar of the wall. Then we came in and dicussed the answers. I got some of the measuring right and so did Leanne.
Tomorrow we will be making Lemonade in school. It will be fun. We measured how many cups, we need how many lemons and oranges we need and we had to measure how much water we need. Our teacher is making the syrup. She will bring it in to the school. We can’t wait to taste it and I hope it will be nice

Soup Making

A lady called Maureen came into our school today.
She taught us about organic vegetables.
Maureen taught us to make vegetable soup, it was nice.
I peeled the parsnips.
She gave us all a turn at the blender.
Some people did not like the soup.
By Liam

We made soup today. A lady called Maureen was in our school to show us how to make vegetable soup. She put all of the ingredients on the table. Some of us were peeling and chopping. She mixed them all together with stock and water. She gave us some soup in a bowl and spoons. Then she wrote a song on the board. We all sang the song. Some liked it and some did not.
By Roisin.
Here are the words of our song;

Thanks to earth for the food that we eat,
onions,potatoes and carrots sweet.
For sun and rain and breezes cool,
Ár mbuíochas leat a Rí na ndúl.

For cabbages, lettuces, for beans and peas,
For fruit and berries that grow on trees.
For earthworms, bacteria and honey bees,
Thank you earth, who gives us these!

Ag déanamh pancóga ~ Making pancakes

Today is Shrove Tuesday and we made pancakes in Inver National School.

Inniú Máirt na hInide agus rinneamar pancóga ar scoil i Scoil Náisiúnta an Inbhir. Bhí an-spórt againn.
Oideas
125g plúr
1 ubh
300ml bainne
ola nó im don friochtán

Nígh muid ár lamha agus fuair muid babhla. Chuiremar plúr sa babhla. Chuiremar bainne agus ubh sa bhabhla freisin as mheasc muid le chéile iad. Fuiar muid friochtán agus chuir an múinteoir im ar an bhfriochtán. Chuir sí an meascán ar an bhfriochtán. Bhí Christina ag cócaireacht. Chuir siad na pancóga ar an bpláta. Chuireamar liomóide agus seacláid ar na pancóga.

Is mhaith liom seacláid ar mo phancóga. Bhí na pancóga an- bhlásta. Bhí an lá go-hiontach.
