Keeping active

The boys and girls who play football won a match today against Scoil bríde.We are very proud of them.
While they were gone my classroom went outside and played lots of activites at break.
We are trying so hard to get our active flag. We play games like dogeball, football, lions den(tag) and we also play skipping.
Our favourite game to play is hom pom. There is alot of running in the game.

Yesterday Eve Deane ran a full mile in Dublin. Her sister Lucy also ran the full mile.Today they came in and we took a picture of there medals . The run was called the great Ireland run. They were very happy after the run.
We got some new equipment last week. This is equipment for individual or team games.
We all like the equipment and we are looking forward to playing with it another day.
I keep active as well. I go to training on Sundays.I love going to trainings on Sunday. But last Sunday I did not go because it was lashing rain.

Heart rates

Today we measured our heart rates when we were resting, after three minutes running and as we recovered. In general, our heart beats were much faster after activity than beforehand. We used http://primaryscience.ie to help us with our experiment.

This is the graph we made of our heart rate:

Thomhais muid ár gcroírátaí féin inniú. Chonaic muid go raibh ár gcroírátaí ardaithe go mór tar eís rith. Rinne muid graif de na rátaí.

An Croí

Circulatory System

Is pumpa é an croí a sheolann fuil ar fud an coirp. Téann an fuil chuig gach cuid den choirp. Tá sé suite i lár do chliabhrach agus tá sé chomh mór le dorn.
Tá sé tabhachtach dúinn a bheith aclaí. Déanann toitíní agus an iomarca alcóil damáiste don chroí. Ba chóír dúinn bia folláin a ithe i gconaí.

The heart is a muscle which pumps blood around to every part of the body. It is located in the centre of the chest and is about the size of a fist.
It is important to keep fit to keep the heart healthy. Smoking and alcohol abuse cause huge damage to the heart. Everyone should try to keep fit and healthy to have a healthy heart.

Cumann na mBunscoil

Well done to the boys and girls who played so well on Monday against the Ceathrú Taidgh team. The Inver girls claimed an easy victory over their opponents. Unfortunately the boys had a much tougher battle and lost out by a few goals, despite their best efforts! Both teams should be very proud of their performance however and their wonderful display of teamwork!
The final scores were as follows;
Girls
Inver 8;03 Ceathrú Taidgh 0; 01
Boys
Inver 3; 05 Ceathrú Taidgh 6; 06

Cumann na mBunscoil & Mini 7’s Blitz

Our 1st game will take place on Monday 4th March against Ceathrú Taidgh @ Kilcommon pitch. Throw in at 10.30am approx. Best of luck to both the boys and the girls team! All supporters welcome!

Well done to both teams for their wonderful performances last week at the mini 7’s Blitz, which took place at the Tallagh Football Pitch. The boys had a tight win over Binghamstown in their first game and although they put up a good fight against the Belmullet boys in the second game, it unfortunately was not reflected in the score when the final whistle blew.
The girls played Glencastle in their first game and a close game it was too, with Inver claiming victory with a lead of 2 points. Their second game was much more of a challenge when they faced the Geesala team. Inver had a great start with a goal within the first 3 minutes, however this was quickly matched by the opponents. Again it was an exciting game up to the final whistle, with the fighting spirit remaining high amongst the Inver girls. But alas, it was not to be…a few quick scores in the last minute from the Geesala forwards left us trailing on the scoreboard. A wonderful display from both the boys and girls team on the day. We are all very proud of ye!
Inver Abú!

Dear Fernando Torres…

We have been practising writing letter to famous people:

Dear Fernando Torres,

Well Torres, Niall here… any craic? Just wondering if you have any day off training this week? If you have please come to my school. It’s great fun. We have a chart for everyday so we can do different sports and activities. I think the chart is bad because the lads and I always want to play soccer,  just like you.

Skipping is great fun too. You probably know that because you are so fit and active   just like the children in our school. We also play Gaelic football. You might not know what that is, but if you came to my school the lads and I will show you how to play it.

Our school have committee’s for being active and water conservation. I’m on the water committee but that doesn’t mean I’m not active.

Last year I played with my local Gaelic club Kilcommon [my parish]. I played u10 and u12. I love skipping too. I’m really good at it I’ll compete against you, and we’ll see who is better at skipping. My friend Eoin is also good at skipping so it will be the three of us.

I got weights for Christmas so I’ll be as strong as you. I also go swimming with my school, its great fun.

Our school have great equipment and we also have a active week every summer. We are having it earlier this year because we are going for our second active flag.

You will learn many things if you come to our school so please come to my school.

Sincerely,

Niall

Ballyglass Lifeboat Station

Lifeboat station

In the morning we left the school because we were going to the lifeboat station. I was very excited.
One of the crew talked about the boat and the how they train.
He dressed the teachers in their lifeboat gears. It was funny.
After we went outside and another man showed us the flare. First he showed us the smoke side and then the red light side. It was very bright. They showed us Fred the dummy. They use him for training. He was very heavy.
The teacher took lots of photos.
Then it was time to go swimming. We really enjoyed the day. We had the craic!

By Liam.

On Thursday we went to the lifeboat station.
It took a long time for all my school to go to Ballyglass.
Finally we got there because I was so tired of waiting.
When I we got there I saw a lifeboat in the sea. It looked so cool.
One of the crew showed us his beeper. Everytime there is an emergency it beeps.
Then our teachers dressed up in the crew’s uniforms. It was so funny.!!
The people there had a practice dummy called Fred .
They loved practicing with him .I think he does not like being thrown into the water.
Fred is so heavy.
After that the crew men showed us a flare , one has orange smoke and the other one has a very bright light to help you if you were in trouble.
Then we saw a lifejacket with all the different equipment in it. There is a blowing tube and when you blow into i,t it blows up the lifejacket.
I had a fantastic day out with my school.

Gaelic Skills & Yard Zones

We are doing lots of activities outside to get our second active flag. We really enjoyed Fitness Fridays with Pat last term. This term, on Tuesdays, Micheál comes to teach us gaelic skills. Every day we have zones on the yard. We play dodgeball, uni hoc, skipping, hoola hooping and basketball. All the school has a different activity to play each day but Friday is free Friday. The active leaders have to gather up all the balls, hoola hoops and skipping ropes after breaktime. We are starting our swimming lessons next Thursday. We cannot wait.

Our Trip To St. Brendan’s

On the 5th of December, 5th and 6th went to St.Brendans for a soccer blitz. Doohama and Shraigh were there too.

First we got out into groups. Some of the people from St.Brendans were captains. We played Lorcan’s team first and we lost by a goal.

After that we played Padraig’s team. We beat them 1-0. Then we played Padraigs team again. We lost by a goal.

After that we had our lunch. I had chicken curry and chips. It was alright.

Then we went home. I had a good day and it was good craic!

On the 5th of December 5th and 6th class went into St. Brendan’s for a soccer blitz. The other schools there were Shraigh and Doohoma.

First when we got into the hall we had a kick about before the other schools came in. When they did come in we got on with the tournament.

I wasn’t playing first so we got to go up into the gym while we were waiting. Then my team and Lorcan’s team were playing in the final we won.

We went into the school then for lunch. It was a good day.
