Lighthouses S3

On Friday I went to Grace’s (my cousin) for a sleep over but we had to make a light house.

Mom got us lots of sweets for the evening so we used them to make it. We used two Pringle boxes for the light house. The teacher gave us the light bulb and the battery. We got paper to put around the light house and then painted it.

We got a carboard box for the base and we painted that. We got blue stuff for the water and for top of the lighthouse we got a sweet jar.

On Wednesday we brought it in to school and everyone else had their lighthouses in too!

Yesterday I made my lighthouse.

I used a Club Orange 2-litre bottle, two A4 pieces of  white paper with a small piece cut off, black tape, red paint, a permanent black marker, Sellotape and electricity stuff from school. I used a battery ,a light bulb and a holder, 3 crocodile clips and a switch

First I cut a bit off the two sheets of paper and taped them onto the bottle and but the battery and the light inside. After I put two strips of black tape onto the paper, then I drew some windows and a door on and coloured the cap black. I put tape around the cap and put five strips of tape from the top to where the tape was to connect them together. I then cut two holes under the bottle so the cable could reach the light.

To finish it off, I painted a small bit red and tried it out. It worked

Ashling and Sister Patricia’s visit.😃

Today Sister Patricia and her colleague Ashling came in and payed a visit. They came in and told us more about God and the earth.

First we watched a little video. It was a letter from Pope Francis. It was all about how to keep the earth nice and tidy. We learned not to cut down trees and  not to throw rubbish on the ground and to do good  things like put the rubbish in the bin and turn off the lights.

After that we went in to the middle room. There in the center of the floor was a sculpture of two hands touching and little tile things lying around it. The colors were red, yellow and green. The green ones had animals on them the red ones were blank and the yellow ones had people on them. We would have to put them all together and then separate them into groups.

Then Sr. Patricia told Shauna to pull up the big bag. Under the bag there was a bare tree with no leaves at all on it.

Then we found more and more things Liam found a little chest with English penny’s in it and some play money. We gathered everything around the touching hands and it was beautiful.

Then at the end we lit a candle and said a little prayer. I really enjoyed their visit.

Sister Patricia and Aisling.

Today Sr. Patricia and Aisling came to visit my school. They showed us a video called Laudato Sí. It was a message from our Pope Francis. It was about our planet, Earth. It showed the beautiful flowers, trees, animals… But then it showed what the world will be if we don’t stop polluting it. A world with rubbish everywhere freezing and boiling weather.

This is called ‘global warming ‘. We need to help the people in the future. As, the people of tomorrow or next week or next century, will have to deal with what some people of the world have done.
The world is God’s hands and we are in them so try to do what you can and stop the earth from becoming a huge lifeless dull planet.

Science Experiments Energy and Forces S1

Today we did science experiments 🎉✨💥

My favourite three were: the balloon rocket🎈💫 volcano and make a rocket

I also liked jacks experiment. He did ” make a rocket “. He got alka seltzer, a film canister, blu tac and water. He filled the film canister quarter way up and put blue tac on the lid. He put the lid on and shook it and left it on the the table. It shot up and made a big bang it was great !✨⚡️🎊🎉💥

News2day

Sometimes we watch New2day in class, to keep up to date with current affairs and sometimes, we watch it at home. Yesterday, our homework was to watch it at home and write a report on one of the news items.

Screen Shot 2016-01-20 at 21.52.55

On ‘News2day’, there was a section in the programme about young people learning about 1916. It really interested me as I enjoy learning about the past. Some students were picked to learn about a person, who changed Ireland forever, and risked his/her life for the people then and in the future (like me!) but, they learned about only the people who were not famous (unlike James Connolly or Padraig Pearse.)

It showed a couple names including William Pearse (Padraig Pearse’s brother) who was in the GPO when the whole rebellion was occurring. The person who was learning about him said; “It was very difficult to get information about him, even though he was Padraig’s (very much) lookalike.’’

I thought that having a 1916 piece on a famous news channel like that was a good idea, to get young Irish pupils involved in our history.

My favourite article on ‘News2 day’ is about some Japanese people doing top of the class archery. They hit arrows with a bow from a long distance!!!! They trained in a tower in Japan. I think they are brilliant at archery.

My favourite “News2 day’ article is about “What its like to be homeless “. A woman and her husband and her three children had nowhere to go for Christmas day and they stayed in a tiny dirty hotel and it wasn’t nice to be there.

Her children and husband had to eat rolls for dinner on one bed, in what was very small room.

She also said that her children could go swimming or go on games in the arcade.

Another woman hoped that a McDonald’s was open on Christmas Day. Imagine eating in McDonalds on Christmas Day!

But they worked for only five months and build 12 apartments.

Noah’s Ark

God saves Noah’s family🐶🐒🐴🐷
Abby💙❤️💜💛💚 By Abby💙❤️💜💛💚 on Jan 7, 2016
Noah was different to everyone else. When Noah lived every one was sinning but Noah never sinned.

One day God said to Noah to build a boat or a ark for him and and his family to stay in because God was going to punish the world with a flood.

Noah worked on his boat even when people laughed at him.

God said “You can only take a pair of each unclean animal on the boat! ” so Noah did .

God sent rain for forty days and forty nights and destroyed every living thing that he had created and Noah and his family was safe in their boat

From Eve

One day God said to Noah “I will send rain which will fall for 40 days and 40 nights. Build a boat and take with you a pair of each animal”. So Noah did exactly what God said. Noah built his boat out of barc and God gave him strict instructions that he had to build a door in his ark and it had to have 3 floors. Some people say it took Noah a hundred years to build the Ark! When he had finished God then said that he will be sending the rain in 7 days.

Noah then had to lead all the animals 2 by 2 into the ark until they were all safely on the boat. Sure enough the rain flooded the whole earth until everything and everyone was dead except for Noah and all the animals on the boat.

After the 40 days and 40 nights the rain still hadn’t cleared up so God remembered Noah and sent strong wind to dry all of the rain. They said that it took 5 months to dry all of the rain!

A little while after the 40 days Noah opened a window that he had built and sent out a dove but he had nowhere to go. After a week he sent out the dove again and it came back with an olive leaf so that mean the waters had gone down. He then waited another week and sent out the dove but it didn’t return.

God then told Noah that everyone could get out of the boat and when they did Noah built an alter to thank god for keeping them safe. Once God seen what Noah had built for him he promised Noah that he would never bring another flood on earth and to ensure a solemn promise he decided to make a rainbow. So now when we say a rainbow in the sky we should think of Gods promise to Noah and to all of the people on earth.

Science Experiment S1 Living Things

Today we did science experiments in class. I did lung capacity. It shows how much air you have in your lungs. I was last in our class but I was going to be best.

First you fill up a 2 litre bottle and fill a basin up half way, put the bottle in upside down in the bottle get a straw put the bent part of the straw into the bottle, and blow into the bottle.

The First Christmas

Once upon a time lived a beautiful woman called Mary and her husband Joseph. They lived in a small town called Nazareth.

One day Mary was sweeping the floor and suddenly an angel appeared and told her she was going to have a baby: “It will be God’s special King and you will call it Jesus.”
Caesar Augustus had ordered everyone to sign their name on the book, in the place where they were born, so that he would know how many people were living in his land.

Mary and Joseph had to travel to Bethlehem and sign their names on the census. Mary couldn’t walk that distance so they brought a donkey.

Meanwhile the three wise kings had seen the most beautiful, brightest star in the sky and they were following it.

An angel also told the shepherds that there was going to be a special baby born in a stable.

When Mary and Joseph got to Bethlehem it was awfully busy and there was nowhere to stay! Mary and Joseph tried loads places but everywhere was fully booked … until they found an inn and thought it would be quiet. The innkeper and his wife told them there absolutely no more room and Mary told them that she was having a baby.

The innkeeper told Mary and Joseph that there was a stable they could borrow for the night. Mary and Joseph were so pleased. That very night Mary had God’s special King.

The shepherds got to the stable and they were all amazed to see Jesus lying in a manger. When the kings followed the star, they ended up in the stable, too. The three kings brought three gifts , gold frankincense and myrrh.

It all happened when a woman called Mary was sweeping the floor and then out of nowhere an angel from above came down and told her that she was going to have a baby and his name would be Jesus. Mary and Joseph had to go to Bethlehem to sign the Census. When they reached Bethlehem, Mary and Joseph signed the Census and went to an Inn.

There was no room at the Inn but the Innkeeper said to Mary and Joseph that they could use his stable for a night. Later that night, the Baby Jesus was born. Then when Mary bent down to settle her baby, Joseph could see some kings in the distance. Then the shepherds and the Kings came and so did the Angels. Everyone was really excited for the birth of the baby Jesus.

There once was a woman named Mary. Mary lived in Nazareth and was engaged to a carpenter named Joseph. One day Mary was baking when an angel appeared in front of her. Mary couldn’t believe what she was seeing. The angel told Mary that she was going to have a baby boy named Jesus and he would be the son of God. Mary was shocked with the news she had just got but she did exactly what the angel told her.

At this time Ceasar Augustus was the emperor and wanted all the people to travel to Bethlehem to get there name in the census book so he could see how many people were In the country. So Mary and Joseph started to make there way to Bethleham to get there names in the census even though Mary was pregnant. Joseph walked all the way and Mary travelled on the donkey.

When they finally arrived at Bethleham there were a lot of people there! After they got their names in the book they went to find an inn that they could stay in but they couldn’t find one anywhere. Just when they were about to give up a generous woman offered Mary and Joseph a stable beside the house because all there rooms were booked. Mary and Joseph were delighted even though there was lots of animals in the stable.

While this was all happening some shepherds and wise men had heard of the terrific news of the baby Jesus and needed to find the stable that Jesus would be born in that very night.

Sure enough high in the sky a star shone brighter than any other star in the sky and these people knew that this would lead them to the baby Jesus. They followed the star and it brought them to the very stable where baby Jesus lay.

When they walked in, there, lay the baby Jesus in a manger.

So Christmas isn’t all about presents and gifts, we’ve got to remember Jesus and what he scarified or us!
