Maigheo do Sam 2016

Tá Maigh Eo i gcluiche ceannais na h-Éireann i mbliana. Beidh siad ag imirt in aghaidh Baile Átha Cliath ar 19ú Mean Fomhair 2016. Tá súil againn go mbeidh an bua ag Maigh Eo mar níor bhuaigh siad cluiche ceannais na h-Éireann ó 1951. Tá píosa ón gcluiche sin le feiceáil thíos.

Science and Engineering Workshop (Step 1)

Declan the Scientist and Engineer

image

Last Tuesday a man called Declan came into our school to do science experiments and some engineerign with us.( I am not going to name them all but I will name my favourites.)

The first thing he did was to make two Hot Air Balloons. For the first one he used a toaster, a cardboard box and a plastic bag. He placed the carboard box around the toaster and then placed the plastic bag on top of the carboard box. He then turned on the toaster and the plastic bag went flying into the air because the toasted heated the air and the air rose up bringing the plastic bag with it.

The next one was used with one of those fancy teabags. He lit it as it went on fire it went flying into the air and burned out. It was really cool. (He had done a lot more but i cannot remember them all.)

Once he had done about tmakeen experiments in Muinteoir Debrah’s class with us he came up to our room to a rolleracoaster. The reason he didnt do it in Muinteoir Debrah’s class was because the Junior and Senoir infants had to go home and it would be too hard for 1st and 2nd.

When we started the rollercoaster it was coming out really cool. When we were nearly done it was time to go home so Muinteoir Marín said we could finish it in the morning. But to our amazment the tower was down on the ground. It must have fallen in the middle of the night but anyways it was a lot of fun.

My favourite thing was probably the rollercoaster. I really enjoyed Declans visit and I am very sad that he won’t be coming for another year… and I won’t be there :-(.

On Wednesday Declan came to our school. He did experiments with us.

The first one he did was with a big air balloon. He got a plastic bag and put it on a toaster the it flew right up into the sky. He also got a gourmet tea bag the made a 3D cuboid with it and lit it on fire and it flew in the sky too.

He also got a light. It was called an ultra violet light. When you shine it on some paper money, it can tell if money is real or not.

After he was finished he came up to our classroom and made a paper rollercoster but sadly it collapsed. Maybe we will get to make it again some day!

We had a great time with Declan and we hope he comes back again.

On Tuesday a scientist called Declan came to our school to a show with us all kinds of things to do with science and engineering.

First he showed us how the earth moves around the sun and the four seasons. He then showed us two hot air balloons. He did lots more experiments with us but my favourite was the balloon race. Six people went up (three at a time) got a balloon and aimed for the window. Then they let go to make the balloon go.

When the juniors went home, the senior classes started to construct a paper rollercoaster. We made a skyscraper out of plastic beams and paper to hold it and stuck the together with duct tape. We the started to make the track out of paper. We added funnels and spirals to make it cooler. At 3’o’ clock we had it half done. But when we came into school the next day it was on the floor. It must have fallen over during the night- but we wil have another go!

Hannah’s ‘Purrfect’ Cat

Every day after school when I’m finished eating my dinner and I’ve done my homework I go outside and play with my cat for 2 hours. When I lie on the ground he jumps on top of me. Sometimes it hurts but sometimes it is REALLY funny.
Walking_cat
At the weekend he always comes inside and falls asleep and sometimes I doze off with him. And when he’s hungry he goes around my legs like the number 8.

One day I thought I had lost him and then I found him on one of kitchen chairs sleeping. I thought it was hilarious. I started to stroke him and then he started purring and yawning. And a few minutes later I started yawning.

My neighbour HATES him and brothers do too. But my mother and father love him. Yesterday he was trotting around with a piece of paper in his mouth. Every time the paper would go up in the air he would jump as high he could. When he lost it he started to somersault and roll around.

I love my cat SO much🐱👩🏼💗💖

Street View App and Google Cardboard

Image-1 (1)

Last week, when we were studying An Fhrainc, we visited The Louvre using Google Cardboard to get a 360 degree impression of the entrance to the museum. This week, we wanted to make our own ‘photo sphere’ so people could get a ‘sphere’ view of our area. You can click on the link in the image above and view it through your Google Cardboard. This is our first attempt, so it is a little shaky yet!

Eir Junior Spiders By Kian

We have been selected for this year Eir Junior Spider awards in Dublin.  We our one of a few schools from Mayo that have been shortlisted! This is a major achievement for our school. It’s in Croke Park! This is our 3rd year in a category with our school blog and last year we also got in another one with our HTML. I have been chosen along with Shauna and Sophie to go and it is mine and Shauna’s second time attending the ceremony. We will represent the whole school and hopefully bring home a Spider Trophy. We hope it is third time lucky!  By Kian

Aurasma

Yesterday we did Aurasma. It is when you point your iPad, using the Aurasma app at a picture and it will play a video about it. This is an example:

It is fairly complicated. You have to upload the movie and login and and link it to a photo, which you have to upload too. It is really cool I would give it 10/10. This video is of me and John doing a presentation about the 1916 Easter rising on our Proclamation day but we just point to our photograph on the wall to see the video.

Yesterday my teacher showed us a new electronic device. It is called VRH: Virtual Reality Headset on Google Cardboard.
When you look into it you can see somewhere else in the world without actually being there! When you look up in real life, you look up in the headset and you can see the sky. If you look down you can see the footpath underneath you and so on so forth. We looked at the Eiffel Tower, it was like we were right underneath it!
You could see all the people around the tower frozen. I really enjoyed it. We also looked at the Louvre Museum. it was very cool as well.

Today I’m writing about Google cardboard. Google cardboard is a thing were you put your phone in the front of your cardboard, look into the the cardboard and look around. You feel you can see all around you. You can pick a picture of anything like but we chose the Eiffel Tower. You have to download an app called Street Viewon your phone first.
I wish I had one☹️

Our teacher has got a Google cardboard. You put an iPhone in the goolel cardboard and look all around you.
We saw the Eiffel tower and the Louvre where the Mona Lisa is kept .
It may not look interesting but it is really cool.

Whistleblast Erris Schools’ Concert

image

Today we went to the Arís Inis Gluaire to preform our concert with Mary Curran and Conor Lenihan.

First when we went in we went into the auditorium to practice. All the schools gathered round the piano and warmed up a bit. Then we started to really practice. Our first song was ‘Feeling Groovy’ and it was a really groovy song. Then we sang ‘Slow Down’ – a song we composed ourselves.

After we had a little break outside but it was only a 15 minute break. When we went in again we sang Una FortivaLa Grimait is a Italian song. We practiced a few more songs and then we had a 45 minute break we went to the park.

When we came in again it was show time. It started at 1:00 and ended at 1:30 Mary and Conor played a few tunes too. People thought we were great.

I really enjoyed it I would love to do it again.😄

In the morning we went to Arís Inis Gluaire to preform in the “Slow down” concert with Mary Curran and Conor Lenihan from the Whistleblast Quartet.

We preformed with other schools like Barnatra NS, Binghamstown and SN Dú Thuama.

Through out our practice we got to have 2 breaks and for the second break we got to go to the park for about an hour or so.

At around 12:30 Junior classes and parents from most of the schools came into watch our performance including our own Junior room.

The concert started at 1:00 and ended at around 1:40. We sang songs like “Feelin Groovy”, “The Hills Of Donegal” and loads more!

I really enjoyed the performance but I was a bit nervous at the start. I think we did an outstanding job and I think that the whole audience enjoyed it!

Today we went to Aras Inis Gluaire to preform a a concert called ‘ Slow Down’. It was preformed in front of parents and students of Belmullet and it started at 1:00.

We arrived at 10:00 to practice. We had two breaks, one for 15mins and one for 45mins.

We preformed 6 songs 1. Kyle Kye Kule 2. Fellin’ groovy. 3. Una Furtiva Lagrima. 4. Hills of Donegal 5. Slow down. 6. Téir Abhaile Rúi.

The experience was absolutely amazing. The atmosphere was brilliant. I have never experienced anything like it ever before. I was nervous before we walked on but when we were on it went away.

My overall favourite would by far be ‘ Hills Of Donegal’. I enjoyed it and would love to do it again.

Yesterday my class mates and I went to the Aras Inis Gluaire to perform a concert with Mary Curran and Coner Lenihan. We did 5 songs. My favourite was “Téir abhile Riú”.

My instrument was a drum with a stick.

The performance started at 1.00 o’clock. There were lots of people there. Múinteior Deborah said we were AMAZING. I was really nervous. The show was brilliant and I had a GREAT day.

Our warmup piece was Kye Kye Kule:

Today (the 01/03/16) my class and I went to Aras Inis Gluaire.  We preformed a concert in which “The Whistleblast Quartet’s” Mary Curan and Conor Linehan accompanied us.

We had practiced for  the concert by doing workshops with Mary.

Conor is a pianist and he was amazing. He played the piano through all of our songs.

Mary Curan is a woman of many talents, she can play a variety of forgein instruments; gambo etc., play the french horn, strum the guitar all while singing along amazingly.

Three schools came with us Dohooma N.S, Barnatra N.S and Binghamstown N.S. I knew a few people from each of the schools, especially Barnatra as they are the nearest to Inver.

My school and all the schools, Mary and Conor wrote a song entitled “Slow down”. We preformed our song at the concert.

The music Mary and Conor taught us was very good. The songs were; “The Hills Of Donegal.”, “Feelin’ Groovy.”, “Una Furtiva Langrima.”, “Slow Down. (Our song)”, “Téir Abhaile Rúi.” and “Kye kye Kule.”

Before the concert started we went to the park. We had lots of good fun there.

When the concert was about to start we were all buzzing with excitement.

We sang our songs and everyone clapped.

At the end we all took a bow.

😆 from Siobhan’s blog 😆

The Introductory piece was from Gershwin.

Then we had a piece from Mozart.
